Sankofa Theatre Company is a dedicated performer and producing organization based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Founded to engage and enrich the region with powerful African American theatre, Sankofa collaborates with local venues and cultural partners to bring bold, thought-provoking productions to audiences of all ages. Since its formal incorporation in June 2017 and achieving 501(c)(3) status in November 2017, Sankofa has grown into a trusted arts organization with a clear mission and a track record of educational outreach.

Led by Co-Founder and Executive Artistic Director Sharia Benn, Sankofa Theatre Company relies on a core team, a listed board, and a founding committee to guide its artistic vision and community impact. The company has produced 12 artistically strong live theatre productions since 2018, reaching close to 10,000 students and adults through performances, workshops, and partnerships with Gamut Theatre Group, Open Stage of Harrisburg, and the National Civil War Museum, among others. Sankofa’s work is supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), underscoring its significance in the regional arts ecosystem.
