Savage Republic emerged from the late 1970s underground, originally known as Africa Corps. Guided by the distinctive hand-printed sleeve design created by Bruce Licher, the band defined a striking visual identity that matched their fearless sound. Over the decades, Savage Republic carved out a niche that blends post-punk energy with tribal percussion, droning guitars, and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean influences. Critics have described them as industrial/post-modern raga-rock, a label that fits their expansive, border-crossing approach to music.
