The School of Richmond Ballet is the official school of The State Ballet of Virginia, a 501(c)(3) organization that combines professional company performances with comprehensive educational programs. Founded in 1975, the school offers training from age 4 to adults, including ballet, modern, character dance, theatre dance, and related programs. Co-founded by Valerie A. Draper, the school has deep roots dating back to 1910, with Draper leading the school from 1980 onward. In 2024, Ma Cong assumed the role of Artistic Director, guiding the company’s artistic direction after Stoner Winslett. The school’s On Tour program has brought performances to renowned venues nationwide and internationally, and Minds in Motion marks 30 years of its education and outreach impact in 2025.
