Team and competition background
The Seattle Kraken are a professional ice hockey team based in Seattle, Washington, and play in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Kraken began their inaugural season in the 2021-2022 NHL season. The team is named after a legendary sea creature from Nordic folklore, reflecting Seattle's maritime culture. The Kraken's home games are played at Climate Pledge Arena, a venue designed with sustainability in mind. The Kraken's formation marked the return of professional hockey to Seattle after a lengthy absence, with the last NHL team, the Seattle Metropolitans, disbanding in 1924. [1] [2]
