Sheesham Crow and Lotus Wight formed their collective in 1998, emerging from the Canadian fiddle scene as an evolution of the broader project Flapjack. The duo’s name signals a playful, artisan approach to traditional roots music, with a commitment to preserving old-time fiddle and banjo while weaving ragtime, jug-band grooves, and vaudeville flair into their performances. They’ve built a reputation for sonically adventurous outings, including the use of sepia-phonic instruments such as the Monophone horn and contrabass-harmoniphoneum, which contribute to their distinctive timbre.
