Speed The Plough is a long-running New Jersey chamber pop/indie rock outfit formed in 1984, evolving from The Trypes. Core members include John and Toni Baumgartner and Marc Francia. Known for blending folk and jazz-inflected textures with intimate arrangements, this band has built a devoted following through thoughtful songwriting and collaborative recordings. As of 2021, they’ve released 10 full-length albums, with 2021's Before & After Silence marking a modern resurgence and a wide circle of guest collaborators. Their music has found a home in independent cinema, with tracks featured in the films Strangest Dreams (1990) and Paradise Park (1993). In 2025, Speed The Plough continues to perform and release music, including a new EP, Songs with Anna, on Bandcamp and several live appearances in New England.
