Spider John Koerner (August 31, 1938 – May 18, 2024) was a defining figure in the 1960s folk-blues revival. Born in Rochester, New York, Koerner helped shape a sound that blended traditional blues with Appalachian and tin Pan Alley influences, leaving a lasting imprint on American roots music. He performed as a solo artist, as part of the duo-turned-trio Koerner, Ray & Glover (with Ray & Glover), and through collaborations that highlighted raw, expressive guitar and storytelling vocals. Koerner’s work continues to influence today’s folk and blues artists, and his legacy lives on through archival releases, tributes, and ongoing appreciation from fans around the world.
