The Stephen Petronio Company (SPC) is a cornerstone of American postmodern and contemporary dance, founded in 1984 by renowned choreographer Stephen Petronio. Based in New York City, SPC is celebrated for bold movement vocabularies, collaborations with contemporary musicians and visual artists, and a commitment to preserving the legacy of modern dance through restaging programs. The company operates Bloodlines, a program dedicated to restaging works by Merce Cunningham and other Judson-era pioneers, and it runs the Stephen Petronio Residency Center, which supports new work and creative development. As SPC approaches its 40th anniversary, the company continues to push boundaries while honoring the field’s history.
