Originating from a two-week residency in Saint Paul, MN in February 2020, HERbeat culminated in a historic Ordway Center concert on February 29, 2020, featuring a lineup of celebrated taiko luminaries such as Tiffany Tamaribuchi, Chieko Kojima, Kaoly Asano, and Jennifer Weir. The project centers women in taiko leadership and continues to influence the field through performances, education, and a powerful documentary arc.

HERbeat’s work resonates beyond traditional concerts, linking to the Finding Her Beat documentary which chronicles their journey and has earned Best Feature Documentary and an Audience Choice award at DisOrient 2023. The film has since been distributed for broader viewing, including PBS releases, widening the reach of women-led taiko artistry.
