Teatr Zar is a multinational theatre company formed after expeditions to Georgia (1999–2003). The name ZAR draws from Svan funeral songs in the Caucasus, reflecting a mission to sound theatre in its fullest sense. The company specializes in ensemble work that fuses East and West musical traditions, featuring polyphonic singing and ritualistic theatre language that invites audiences into a shared, immersive experience.

From its early accolades to bold, contemporary performances, Teatr Zar has established a global presence. Notably, Gospels of Childhood (The Triptych) earned Best New Music Theatre by the Los Angeles Times in 2009 and later secured the Wroclaw Theatre Prize in 2010. The company continued to gain critical recognition with Caesarean Section and Armine, Sister, both honored at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a Total Theatre Award for Physical/Visual Theatre and a Herald Angel Award in 2012.
