The Tell Us the Truth Tour is a milestone in benefit and protest performances, launched in November 2003 with a 12-city, two-week run across the United States. Beginning in Madison, Wisconsin and closing in Washington, DC, the tour united artists and activists to champion media reform and speak out against media consolidation. Notable headline participants included Tom Morello (The Nightwatchman), Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Boots Riley of The Coup, and Lester Chambers, with appearances by Jill Sobule and Janeane Garofalo at select stops. The effort drew support from unions and advocacy groups such as AFL-CIO, Common Cause, and Axis of Justice, creating a chorus for change across the country.
