Tempo No Tempo is a dynamic indie band built on a fusion of dance-punk, post-punk, and West African rhythmic influences. Formed on October 30, 2005, at UC Berkeley by Tyler McCauley, Alex Kaiser, Jason Wexler, and Chris Cadena, the group carved out a niche with energetic live performances and self-released records. From their early EPs The Get Down (2006) and Repetition (2007, on Double Negative), to their debut full-length Waking Heat (circa 2009, self-released), Tempo No Tempo has built a reputation for crafting urgent, danceable rock. The band earned invites to South by Southwest in 2009 and 2010, followed by an East Coast tour and CMJ appearances, establishing a strong regional and national presence. In the 2020s, they returned with new material streaming on major platforms, including The Clouds of Midnight, Mangos, and Do Don’t Disco!, continuing to blend witty lyrics, dynamic guitars, and rhythmic complexity.
