You're as good as your latest show, and The Call has a legacy that still resonates with fans of Americana-inflected rock. Formed in 1980 in Santa Cruz, California, The Call brought together Michael Been, Scott Musick, Tom Ferrier, and Jim Goodwin to craft music that balanced earnest storytelling with strong melodies. Their breakthrough mainstream moment came with the single Let the Day Begin, which reached No. 1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart in 1989. Over the years, the band built a catalog spanning nine studio albums from 1982 through the 1990s, and in 2024 released The Lost Tapes, a project that includes new material featuring Been’s vocals complemented by remasters of Reconciled and Into the Woods. While Been’s passing in 2010 paused live performances, The Call has re-formed for select reunions in the 2010s and 2020s, continuing to connect with long-time fans and new listeners alike.
