Documented collaborators

The Lewd emerged from Seattle's vibrant late-70s scene, forming in 1977 before relocating to San Francisco in the early 1980s. As early West Coast punk pioneers, they helped shape the region's raw, unapologetic sound. Lead by J. Sats Beret with Blobbo/Kurdt Vanderhoof on bass and guitar, Olga de Volga on bass, and Chris Reece on drums (who would later contribute to Social Distortion), The Lewd captured the urgency of the era on their debut single Kill Yourself (1979) and the 1982 LP American Wino. Their influence extends beyond their records, with material featured on the SF Underground 2 compilation (Subterranean Records, 1980). Fans and collectors continue to celebrate their approach to punk, from vivid live performances to rare releases and reissues that document a formative chapter in West Coast hardcore. Here, you’ll find a detailed biography, discography highlights, and up-to-date tour information as The Lewd return to the live stage.
