Hailing from New Orleans, The Meters are among the originators of funk, known for tight grooves, second-line rhythms, and influential guitar and keyboard work. Formed in 1965 by Zigaboo Modeliste, George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli and Art Neville, with Cyril Neville joining later to bolster percussion and vocals, the band crafted a signature sound that would influence countless artists and genres. The Meters’ enduring legacy was acknowledged with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018, and they’ve been recognized by the Rock Hall of Fame with multiple nominations across the years.
