The Pimps formed in Rockford, Illinois, in the mid-1990s as The Goodyear Pimps. They later billed themselves simply as The Pimps after legal/name-name changes, including a notable cease-and-desist episode involving The Goodyear corporation. Known for a tight, three-chord punk approach and energetic live shows, they carved out a distinct groove that critics described as "punk rock with a groove."
