The Recollectors are a storytelling and oral-history collective founded in 2013 by Alysia Abbott and Whitney Joiner. What began as a digital community and archival project about children who lost parents to AIDS has grown into a national platform for powerful, intimate narrative performances. Rather than a traditional music act, The Recollectors center memory, community, and care through spoken word, essays, and oral histories shared in live settings. Their work is produced in partnership with the NYC AIDS Memorial and The Generations Project, bringing together generations to preserve and reflect on personal histories related to the AIDS pandemic.
