History
The Stylistics were formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1966 by combining two local high school rival singing groups, 'The Percussions' and 'The Monarchs'. The group officially created the name 'The Stylistics' under the guidance of English teacher Beverly Hamilton. The Stylistics made their first studio recording after being approached by local record company executive Bill Perry. [3]
Sound
The Stylistics' music is characterized by soulful grooves, lush arrangements, smooth vocal harmonies, and honeyed boy-meets-girl romances. The Stylistics helped define Philadelphia soul in the 1970s. The Stylistics have released numerous albums, including 'The Original Debut Album 1973', 'Rockin' Roll Baby', and 'Thank You Baby'. [4] [5] [6]
