The Tale Of Lady Thị Kính is a landmark work that bridges traditional Vietnamese theater with Western grand opera conventions. Commissioned and shaped by Vietnamese-American composer P.Q. Phan, the work stands as a milestone in cross-cultural classical music, with English-language librettos rooted in Vietnamese Hat Cheo traditions. The project gained early traction through a 2011 workshop and culminated in a world premiere at IU Opera Theater in Bloomington, February 2014, under the baton of a collaboration that showcased Phan’s innovative operatic voice.
