Triangle Youth Music (TYM) has been shaping young musicians in North Carolina since 1988, evolving from the Philharmonic Association into a thriving hub for orchestral and jazz artistry. Serving over 500 musicians annually, TYM fosters a wide range of ensembles, including three full orchestras—the Triangle Youth Philharmonic (TYP), TY Symphony, and the Triangle Youth Orchestra (TYO)—as well as several influential jazz groups such as TYJE, TYJO, and TYJB. In 1993, TYP was designated the official youth orchestra of the North Carolina Symphony, a testament to its high artistic standards and community impact.

Alongside rigorous classical training, TYJE and friends have earned eight invitations to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Festival, highlighting the program’s prominence in contemporary jazz education. In 2025, TYJE and TYJO earned the Best Community Jazz Band award at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Essentially Ellington Festival, underscoring the organization’s continued excellence. TYMs season features major concerts at notable venues, including Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh, Meredith College, and Cary Arts Center, with joint performances that showcase the breadth of youth talent in the region.
