Vanhal, born Johann Baptist Vanhal on May 12, 1739 in Nechanice, Bohemia, is a prominent figure of the Classical era whose prolific output spanned symphonies, concertos, chamber works, and solo keyboard pieces. Though he lived in Vienna at the height of his career, his roots trace back to Bohemia, and his music reflects the stylistic transition from the Baroque to Classical sensibilities. In recent years, interest in his work continues to grow, with 2025 releases and fresh performances keeping his repertoire in the concert hall and on recording stages around the world.
