Where Have All the Flowers Gone is a cornerstone of 20th-century folk, widely recognized for its anti-war message and enduring storytelling. The song originated in the mid-1950s, with Pete Seeger writing the original version in 1955 and Joe Hickerson adding later verses in 1960. It gained mainstream momentum when the Kingston Trio released a single version in 1961–1962, reaching the Billboard Hot 100 and helping define the folk revival era. The song also appeared on Peter, Paul & Mary's debut album (1962), cementing its role in folk history. In 2002, Seeger’s version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame as part of a Columbia release. Today, the legacy continues through tribute events and ongoing performances of Seeger’s material by contemporary artists and ensembles.
