Founded in 1981 as the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) by Lin and Ted Arison, the organization rebranded to YoungArts in the 2020s to reflect a broader, more accessible mission: empower young artists with cash awards, mentorship, and lifelong professional development opportunities.

Each year, YoungArts runs a national competition open to artists aged 15–18 (or in grades 10–12), awarding winners who advance to the National YoungArts Week in Miami.
