Since opening in 1981 and a renovation in 2001, the venue has served as the home court for the Birmingham-Southern Panthers basketball program and hosted a variety of events, including notable appearances during the 2022 World Games. As of 2024, the college announced campus closure and a sale of the property; the fate of the Coliseum has not been publicly determined.
