Seating, Parking & Venue Information

  • Detroit, MI: Booker T. Theatre at 1020 Holbrook Avenue seated 1,400 and was demolished after a roof collapse; it hosted early rock’n’roll performances and acts like The Orioles and The Flamingos in the 1950s.
  • Jackson, MS: Booker-T Theatre at 132 N. Farish Street had 300 seats; opened 1938, remodeled in 1946, and eventually demolished.
  • Mobile, AL: Booker T. Theatre at 1378 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue seated 1,025; described as a Negro Theatre and closed/demolished by the mid-1970s.
  • Washington, DC: Booker-T Theatre at 1433 U Street NW had 497 seats; demolished and the site is now Portner Place Apartments; historically notable for screening controversial titles such as 'NiggerLover' in the 1970s.
