About Burtness Theatre

Burtness Theatre is the University of North Dakota’s dedicated performing-arts venue, operated by UND Theatre Arts within the College of Arts & Sciences. Located on the UND campus at 281 Centennial Dr, Grand Forks, ND 58202, Burtness hosts a range of UND Theatre Arts productions—from classic musicals to intimate Lab/Black Box performances. The venue provides a professional main stage with roughly 400 seats and a smaller Lab Theatre around 150 seats, plus a growing Black Box space planned in Starcher Hall. Whether you’re visiting from across town or a local, we’ve got you covered with insider tips for parking, transit, and nearby lodging and dining.

Plan ahead to secure your seats for upcoming UND Theatre Arts shows. Parking is available at the Burtness Lot, Gustafson Lot, and the nearby Twamley Lot on or near campus. For easy access, ride the on-campus UND Red Route bus; Stop 5 services Burtness Theatre. After the show, consider nearby lodging like Hilton Garden Inn or The Olive Ann Hotel, both referenced by UND and Visit Grand Forks as convenient stays for theatre-goers. We’ll keep you posted on new Black Box additions in Starcher Hall in 2026, continuing Burtness’s role as a versatile venue for the arts in Grand Forks.
