The Center for Jewish History (CJH) is a collaborative hub housing five renowned Jewish cultural institutions: American Jewish Historical Society, American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. Located at 15 West 16th Street in Manhattan’s Union Square area, CJH offers flexible spaces for conferences, dinners, lectures, and private gatherings, with a practical, no-nonsense approach to planning and logistics.

With multiple spaces designed to accommodate a range of event sizes, CJH provides a reliable, straightforward rental experience. We’ll walk you through seating options, access to parking, transit routes, and nearby hotel and dining choices to keep your planning simple and stress-free.

Spaces and capacities: The Paul S. & Sylvia Steinberg Auditorium seats up to 247 attendees for presentations and performances. The Steinberg Great Hall accommodates up to 140 guests for dinners (with a 250-person buffet capacity). Additional private rooms offer 15, 30, and 80 seats for meetings or breakout sessions. Note that CJH does not publish a single campus seating chart; event layouts are determined per rental to fit your program needs.

Parking and transportation: Discounted parking is available at Creative Parking LLC (16 W 16th St) and Universal Parking LLC (55 W 14th St). Parking tickets must be validated at CJH security. Street parking is sometimes available, and Sundays offer free parking in certain areas around Union Square. CJH is well-served by multiple subway lines including 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R to 14th Street Union Square; F, M, L, PATH to 14th Street & 6th Avenue; and 1, 2, 3 to 14th Street & 7th Avenue.
