About Great Star Theater
Great Star Theater is a historic nonprofit proscenium theater located at 636 Jackson Street in San Francisco's Chinatown. Originally built in 1925 for Cantonese opera, it has earned its place as the Home of the Cantonese Opera and the last Chinese theater of its kind in a U.S. Chinatown. The venue hosts a diverse lineup—from Cantonese opera heritage to film screenings and cabaret—continuing a rich cultural tradition in a modern, accessible space.
With a seating capacity of 438 and a maximum capacity of 500 with a standing/dance floor, Great Star Theater offers an intimate setting that makes each performance feel close to the stage.
