Hoover Dam sits about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, on the Nevada–Arizona border. This iconic structure, completed in 1935, powers up to 2,080 MW across 17 turbines and stands as a monumental feat of engineering. The dam offers guided Dam Tours and Power Plant Tours from a modern Visitor Center, with hours designed for day trips and group visits. Hours: Hoover Dam is open 5:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Visitor Center and Tours open 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (last tour 4:10 p.m.). The site is closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. Parking on the Nevada side offers a nearby garage option at the best available price per vehicle; Arizona side Lot 9 is the best available price, while Lots 13 and 14 are free. Transit options are best via car or Las Vegas-based tours/shuttles, as direct RTC buses do not go straight to the Dam. Nearby lodging includes Hoover Dam Lodge in Boulder City and the historic Boulder Dam Hotel. Note: The Visitor Center was renovated and reopened in June 2025, keeping the experience fresh for guests.
