About Ingalls Rink
Ingalls Rink, officially David S. Ingalls Rink and affectionately nicknamed The Whale, is Yale University’s iconic ice hockey venue located at 73 Sachem Street in New Haven, CT. Opened in 1958 with a Saarinen-inspired design, it seats up to 3,500 for hockey and remains a cherished site for Yale men’s and women’s hockey, as well as occasional CIAC and college tournaments. The rink underwent a renovation in 2009 and newer upgrades announced in 2025—including a modern videoboard and enhanced sound system—to keep the experience current while preserving its historic charm.
