About Kulturzentrum Exzellenzhaus
Welcome to Kulturzentrum Exzellenzhaus, Trier's historic cultural complex located at Zurmaiener Straße 114 in the Trier-Nord district. Though the site was temporarily closed in 2019 for safety and renovation needs, ongoing efforts since 2020–2026, led by new organizational structures (eXhaus bleibt!, Kulturgraben), aim to revive the venue without demolition. The campus includes multiple spaces such as Exil (approximately 500 seats), Schimmelkeller (about 300 seats), and the Balkensaal in the north wing, along with associated rooms for a variety of performances, showcases, and community programming. Historically, Exzellenzhaus hosted large concerts, youth culture programming, and the Summerblast Festival through 2018, attracting tens of thousands of attendees each year. The venue remains a significant cultural anchor with plans to reintroduce high-quality events for Trier and beyond.
