About Newcastle Panthers
Welcome to the Newcastle Exhibition Centre (NEX) at Wests City, the versatile hub for conventions, exhibitions, concerts, weddings, and conferences in Newcastle. Located at 309 King Street, Newcastle West 2302, this multi-space venue blends flexible configurations with a lively social scene across four bars and a large 289 m² dance floor. Whether you’re attending a concert in the main auditorium, a conference in The Arena, or a wedding in The Avenue, we’ve got you covered with practical tips to plan your visit and secure your seats.
Note: The site has a storied history, originally home to the Newcastle Panthers. The Panthers brand at this location has ended, and the site has since evolved into Wests City and then Newcastle Exhibition Centre (NEX). Today, NEX remains a premier events destination in Newcastle, easily accessible by car and public transit.
Below you’ll find seating details, parking information, transit options, and trusted affiliate recommendations for nearby hotels and restaurants to ensure a smooth, no-fuss experience.
Seating and spaces: NEX comprises multiple configurable spaces with varying capacities. The main auditorium can host up to 2,400 guests for events. For theatre-style events, seating typically accommodates around 1,280 attendees. Other spaces within the complex include The Arena, The Extra, The King St Room, The Avenue, and more, each adaptable to different event formats and sizes.
Parking: On-site King Street underground carpark and Bull Street carpark provide convenient options. Typical hourly rates are around the best available price (King Street) and the best available price (Bull Street); charges vary by duration and event day. Entry points and security are staffed during events to help you move in and out efficiently.
Transportation: NEX is well-served by public transport. It’s near major bus routes and is within a comfortable walk from the Newcastle Interchange. For light rail connections, check proximity to Civic Light Rail areas, making it easy to reach the venue from various Newcastle suburbs.
Nearby hotels: For convenient overnight stays, consider Mercure Newcastle, located very close to NEX, and The Executive Newcastle (New Lambton), part of the Wests Group, both offering comfortable rooms and straightforward access to the venue. We’ve partnered with trusted hotel affiliates to help you book reliably and quickly.
Nearby dining: The Wests City precinct and surrounding Newcastle West neighbourhood offer a variety of dining options, from casual eateries to more refined dining experiences. We recommend booking in advance for peak event periods. Our partnered restaurants provide easy post-event options so you can unwind after shows or conferences.
Friendly note: If your event date is not yet announced or has been RESCHEDULED from original date, we reflect that clearly. Always check the event listing for the latest date details and any venue-specific instructions.
