Opened in 1970 as University Theatre and later known as the Newcastle Playhouse before becoming Northern Stage in 2006, the venue now hosts touring productions, acclaimed company shows, and major events such as BBC Question Time and the BBC Comedy Festival. The complex features three stages—Stage 1 with roughly 450 seats, Stage 2 around 160 seats, and Stage 3 approximately 70 seats—offering a mix of large-scale productions and intimate performances.
