Since forming in 1982 in Houston, Texas, D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) has been a defining force in crossover thrash—a blend of hardcore punk intensity and thrash metal precision. Fronted by Kurt Brecht on vocals and Spike Cassidy on guitar, the duo helped shape a sound that would influence generations of metal bands and punk groups alike. Dubbed a pioneer of the genre, D.R.I. popularized the term “crossover” with their 1987 breakthrough album Crossover, cementing their place in heavy music history.
